Two main variety of rice, i.e. Basmati and IRRI, are most commonly grown in Pakistan. Rice production in the country consists of 55% IRRI varieties, 40% Basmati (aromatic) Rice and 5% other varieties that is planted once a year during the months of May / June and harvested in September to November with maturity time of 4 to 5 months. Pakistan by virtue of its warm climate grows Indica rice (long grain).
